Joining the Psychology Club

There are no requirements or fees! Meetings are open to all, regardless of major, GPA, or grade/year :)

We invite all students at UC Davis to participate in our Psychology Club, which is integrated with the Psi Chi Honor Society. While official Psi Chi members receive extra benefits and academic recognition, our community is open to any student interested in psychology.

Requirements for Psi Chi Membership

These are the steps and requirements to become an official, globally recognized member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology:

1.

Pursuing a major or minor in Psychology, OR major in Cognitive Science

2.

Complete at least four upper-division Psychology (PSC) courses

3.

Have a cumulative GPA ranked in the top 35% of their class (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) in the College of Letters & Science (see below)

4.

Complete online application and pay the lifetime membership fee + chapter dues (more info about dues at first meeting)

5.

Receive invitation to induction ceremony from Psi Chi at UC Davis Board

6.

Attend the induction ceremony, (led by Psi Chi student chapter leaders two to three times each school year) and receive official certificate of membership

BENEFITS OF PSI CHI MEMBERSHIP

1. Academic distinction - a membership certificate which gives official evidence of membership.

2. Valuable experience - working with Psi Chi is excellent for building up a resume, providing opportunities for leadership, commitment, and pursuit of learning in the field of psychology.

3. Professional growth - Opportunities are made available to the members for promoting their research, receiving national and international recognition, meeting and interacting with leaders in their field, and meeting Psi Chi members of other chapters who also will be future leaders.

4. National recognition - The United States government recognizes membership in Psi Chi as meeting one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in the Federal Service.

5. Expanded network in the field of psychology - Connect with both a diverse community of students who share a passion for psychology, and a broader network of working professionals.

6. Membership Perks - certain events, opportunities, and resources are reserved for members only.

Summary of Requirements:

  • Major/Minor: PSC or CGS major (or PSC minor)
  • Academics: Minimum 3.0 psychology GPA
    • Overall GPA in top 35% of class*
  • Psychology Coursework: Minimum of 4 upper division Psychology courses completed (PSC 100-199)
  • Class Standing: Be at least in winter quarter of sophomore year
  • Membership Fees: Pay the lifetime Psi Chi International Membership Fee + chapter dues (more info about dues at first meeting)

*Overall GPA Cutoffs (for 2025-26):

  • Seniors: 3.399
  • Juniors: 3.407
  • Sophomores: 3.501
