Our mission is to provide information and advice about the process and steps needed in order to become a medical student. We also wish to provide mentors for those pre medical students that want to have a medical student share advice in a one-on-one type environment.

AMWA at UC Davis SOM is a local branch of a national organization whose goal is to advance women in medicine and improve women's health. This organization is important in addressing the persistent gender bias in medicine that leads to fewer women taking leadership positions, discrepancy in pay between men and women, and female underrepresentation in certain specialities. Our focus as AMWA members is to bring together a diverse group of students to plan events and provide opportunities focused on mentoring, outreach, women's health, and to establish a network and support system for personal and career development.

The Avian & Exotic Animal Medicine Club provides for current UC Davis SVM veterinary students with an opportunity to learn about exotic companion animal health, medicine, and surgery and to gain technical skills in working with these species. Clínica Tepati operates under a three-part mission of healthcare, education, and advocacy. We provide essential healthcare services and health education to the underserved Latinx community. This inclusive environment fosters educational exchange between UC Davis undergraduates, UC Davis medical students, CNU medical students, UOP pharmacy students, and local healthcare professionals. Through first-hand clinical experiences, each student continues to grow into a conscientious and compassionate healthcare leader.
Additionally, Clínica Tepati connects both patients and students with positive role models and mentors within healthcare. Finally, Clínica Tepati volunteers go beyond providing the standard of care by advocating for recent immigrant patients, serving as both linguistic and cultural interpreters.

Clínica Tepati seeks to provide essential healthcare services to the underserved communities of Sacramento and its surrounding areas, including but not limited to health screening, health education, primary care, and patient advocacy. These services are delivered in an atmosphere appropriate for the needs of the patients in a multilingual/multicultural setting. Covelo Clinic provides companion animal veterinary services to a remote underserved area of Northern California, Covelo, CA. We operate a weekend clinic two or three times yearly to provide wellness, sterilization surgeries, and other needed veterinary care in conjunction with a local rescue organization, BONES Pet Rescue. The clinic is coordinated by UC Davis veterinary students, with assistance of a team of faculty mentors.

El Club de Español Medico (El Club) seeks to enhance and generate interest in the importance of the Spanish language in the healthcare setting. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and the primary/native language for 11 million Californians. Many patients we will serve as future physicians in California use Spanish as the primary language to communicate. UCD seeks to train physicians that will serve our diverse communities, and in CA, the Spanish speaking Latino community is one of the biggest. El Club wants to welcome anyone interested in learning more about Latino culture, the Spanish language, and its people. Generating interest in medical Spanish is one of the first steps in trying to breach the disparities that exist when serving the latino community.

It is the mission of the Immigration Law Association (ILA), of and for UC Davis School of Law (King Hall), to complement King Hall’s immigration clinics and focus on supporting underprivileged immigrant communities. The ILA aspires to aid in this mission by assuming a leadership position in, amongst various other activities, promoting awareness of resources for underprivileged immigrant communities, hosting speakers and events related to the practice of immigration law, providing networking opportunities in the immigration legal field, and assisting with community outreach and immigration issues.
The foundation of the ILA’s mission is framed by the importance of social justice in immigration and recognition of the power balances inherent within the immigration system. With respect to this foundation, anyone is welcomed in supporting the ILA’s mission. All students at King Hall, whether just beginning their studies or preparing for commencement, are welcome to aid in this mission.
The ILA is committed to establishing and maintaining an inclusive, supportive community for King Hall students who share our interest in immigration law. Accordingly, 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls meet weekly to discuss the goals and objectives of the Association, immigration law developments, or just to check in and support other members! There is no emphasis on class rank, grades, or knowledge and experience in immigration law. Rather, the ILA is an organization that works to help law students navigate law school while fostering their passion for immigration law and immigration-related issues.

Our goal is to increase awareness to medical modalities that are not considered conventional medicine, and to educate ourselves, the community, veterinarians, and technicians about these modalities so that we can make educated decisions. To this end, we organize speakers to give talks about the modalities they use to treat their patients. Some of these modalities include acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, herbal medications, homeopathy, and cold laser therapy.

Medical Students for Choice is dedicated to ensuring that women receive the full range of reproductive healthcare choices, and is primarily based out of the School of Medicine in Sacramento. MSFC recognizes that one of the greatest obstacles to safe and legal abortion is the absence of trained providers. As medical students and residents, we work to make reproductive health care and justice, including abortion, a part of standard medical education and residency training. The Mercer Veterinary Clinic's underlying philosophy is to stress the importance of preventative medicine and to reduce pet overpopulation in the Sacramento area by arranging spay/neuter operations free-of-charge for all of the animals seen at the clinic. We rescue orphaned kittens too young for shelters to care for and adopt them into loving homes. Veterinary students learn about neonatal kitten care and kittens find their forever homes. Want to help? Click to find out more!

Orphan Kitten Project is a student-run non-profit organization at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens under 4 weeks of age are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators. These kittens are then fostered by veterinary students or giving members of the community who bottle-raise them in their own homes. The kittens are weaned, vaccinated, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, and dewormed vaccinations before they are put up for adoption, usually by 10-12 weeks of age.

Our mission is twofold:
1) to rescue orphaned and abandoned kittens and adopt them into loving homes
2) to train future veterinarians in the care of feline neonates.

None of our foster kittens are involved in invasive medical research and no healthy kittens are euthanized because a permanent home cannot be found. All kittens remain in the program until they are adopted out.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), also referred to as physiatry, is a medical specialty concerned with diagnosis, evaluation, and management of persons of all ages with physical and/or cognitive impairment and disability. This specialty involves diagnosis and treatment of patients with painful or functionally limiting conditions, the management of comorbidities and co-impairments, diagnostic and therapeutic injection procedures, electrodiagnostic medicine, and emphasis on prevention of complications of disability from secondary conditions. Physiatrists are trained in the rehabilitation of neurologic disorders, and in the diagnosis and management of impairments of the musculoskeletal (including sports and occupational aspects) and other organ systems, and the long-term management of patients with disabling conditions. Physiatrists provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams concerned with maximal restoration or development of physical, psychological, social, occupational and vocational functions in persons whose abilities have been limited by disease, trauma, congenital disorders or pain to enable people to achieve their maximum functional abilities.

The Student Veterinary Emergency Response Team (sVERT) at the University of California, Davis, provides veterinary students the opportunity to supplement their education with hands-on training and experience in disaster medicine.

There is minimal room in the current curriculum at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to discuss emergency response and disaster preparedness in spite of being an important responsibility of veterinarians worldwide. Our Special Studies Program (SSP) aims to fill this gap in knowledge through a joint effort between the UC Davis Veterinary Emergency Response Team (VERT) and the student chapter (sVERT). This course, which has been offered and refined over the past seven years, is designed for students interested in disaster response, public health, and other safety interests. The goals of SSP are twofold: (1) to provide veterinary students with the knowledge and practical training to engage with and serve the community in the event of a disaster, and (2) to establish a basic skill set that can be utilized by a veterinary student during a disaster response. sVERT offers two year-long SSP courses, SSPI and SSP2, both of which include evening and weekend sessions that incorporate didactic and hands-on learning. Enrolled 1st and 2nd year students can choose one of three specialized tracks: Companion Animal, Large Animal, or Mixed Animal Track.

Upon program completion, students can become Disaster Service Workers and contribute to emergency response efforts when requested by government services.

Founded in the spring of 2002 by UC Davis medical students interested in general surgery and the surgical subspecialties, SSIG aims to increase exposure to the world of surgery. An early introduction to the field forms the core of our philosophy, and we offer preclinical experiences through mentoring programs, conferences, workshops and a journal club. 1. Foster dialogue on racism as a public health concern.
Encourage physicians, physician organizations, and medical institutions to publicly recognize racism as a public health issue.
Promote medical students involvement in local and national movements to end racism and police brutality.
Advocate for the funding and promotion of research on the health effects of racism.

2. End racial discrimination in medical care.
Demand that academic medical centers serve the healthcare needs of their local communities, particularly the needs of patients of color.
Promote the allocation of funding for interventions that dismantle racism in the delivery of medical care.
Ensure equal access to medical care by advocating for the establishment of a single-payer national health insurance program.

3. Prepare future physicians to be advocates for racial justice.
Improve the recruitment and support of Black, Latinx, and Native American medical students.
Promote the recruitment, retention, and hiring of Black, Latinx, and Native American physicians in medical school teaching, research, and leadership positions.
Develop national medical school curricular standards that educate current and future medical professionals on the history and current manifestations of racism in medicine, principles of anti-racism, and strategies for dismantling structural racism.

A UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Club, for vet students who are interested in pursuing a career in, or are interested in wildlife/zoo/aquatic animal medicine. The Club brings in speakers to educate students on different topics of zoo/wildlife medicine. WAAM holds wetlabs and field-trips for students to gain hands-on experience in various aspect of zoo and wildlife medicine. WAAM also connects students to different zoos and organizations with the goal of furthering student members' careers in wildlife and zoo medicine.

Women Leading Healthy Change (WLHC) is a program developed by Dr. Rachel Robitz while she was in medical school at the University of Cincinnati in collaboration with Off The Streets that has since expanded to multiple locations. WLHC consists of a 10-week curriculum where medical students along with women who are recovering from commercial sexual exploitation co-lead collaborative classes on various topics in women's health and mental health to women in the community who have been sexually exploited or trafficked. UC Davis medical students, with Dr. Robitz's assistance, have been collaborating with the Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH) in Sacramento to jumpstart the project at this location, tailoring to the health topics that are most relevant and would provide the greatest benefit to this community.

Mission
The Workers' Rights Clinic is a weekly clinic where law students provide low-income workers with legal information and referrals about problems they are facing at work. The clinic is a student-run organization with law student directors (Principal Officers) and law student counselors (volunteers) willing to spend an evening a week meeting with clients and helping them with their work related issues. The student directors are responsible for coordinating clinic meeting times and assisting student volunteers. On a typical clinic night, each law student volunteer meets with clients, discusses their clients' legal issues with a supervising attorney, and then provides the clients with their legal options. There is also a substantive law component to the clinic as every week a supervising attorney will give a presentation going over an area of substantive employment law prior to meeting with clients. The Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center in San Francisco and the Center for Workers' Rights in Sacramento will provide the clinic with legal resources and the Center for Workers' Rights will assist in recruiting supervising attorneys to work with students.
