Presidency

The presidency is comprised of MS3-MS4 students. The aim is to ensure continuity and informed leadership. Members should have prior experience in DIG leadership and should be committed to a career in Dermatology. The presidency assumes a supportive role across all DIG functions. A significant time commitment is to be expected.

Time Commitment

1–2+ hours every week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Must have a mentorship position overseeing directors below.
    • Oversee organizational structure, meetings, and planning
    • Act as formal communication link with the Dermatology Department
    • Pick up and aid in any area needing additional support
    • Present annual goals and leadership updates to Dermatology faculty

Directors (4th Year Mentors)

MS4 mentors will oversee and work with the MS1/MS2 leadership in their respective roles. They are in charge of providing better access and guidance on pursuing a career in dermatology, in addition to helping MS1/MS2s work with the residents and attendings.

2–4 hours every month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Provides mentorship to the Research & Education Coordinator(s)
    • Will help direct students in understand the requirement of research, in addition to planning educational activities for students
    • Will help work as a bridge for students to understand where to find research
  • Responsibilities:

    • Provides mentorship to the Outreach & Community Engagement Coordinator(s)
    • Aids in ensuring projects align with scope of the DIG
    • Provides support for community engagement and communication
  • Responsibilities:

    • Provides mentorship to the Planning & Communication Coordinator(s)
    • Will act as the liason between the students and the facutly department to help promote opportunities
    • Provides support in ensuring plans are realistic and tasks appropriatley deligated
    • Will help in running social media presence and promoting deparment informaiton

Coordinators (MS1-2s)

Our coordinators will consist of MS1-MS2s interested in greater exposure to dermatology. What matters is the desire to take on these individual roles and help grow the experiences and visibility of the DIG. The expected time commitment of these positions will depend largely on the current activities going on in the DIG, though an average would be around 1-2 hours a week.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate research opportunities and educational events
    • Update and notify the DIG regarding upcoming research conferences and abstract deadlines
    • Works with the Research & Education Mentor

    Expected Commitment:

    • About 4-5 hours per month
    • Due to the nature of research, it would be more common that this work will be done more often in bursts rather than weekly or biweekly.

    • Generate ideas for meaningful community engagement
    • Form relationships with community partners
    • Provide improved public visibility

  • Responsibilities:

    • Oversee logistical aspect of all events
    • Will aid in the organization and deligation of tasks for projects
    • Oversee logistical aspect of all events
    • Manage online presence for the DIG and promote the dermatology departments presence
    • Help to manage the DIG website to ensure up-to-date content
    • Ensure media documentation at events

    Expected Commitment:

    • About 1-2 hours every other week + events

Specialty Positions

The specialty positions are areas that provide unique ways for our students to have positions within DIG Leadership that will be more free-form in terms of time commitment and expectations.

    • Aid in developing the new referral protocol
    • Plan and implement the new referral protocol among the Student-Run-Clinics
    • Coordinate with volunteering Attendings and Residents

    • You wish to help provide equitable access to high-quality dermatologic care to vulnerable populations in the greater Sacramento Area

    • This position is ideally for an MS1 that will be able to follow this project to completion
    • The time commitment will be highly variable through the developmental process
    • We hope to create a publishable report in 2025 regarding effectiveness

    • Engage in local, state, and national advocacy efforts of your choice
    • Develop organization strategy for further projects
    • Work with local, state, and national organizations
    • Provide structure to further advocacy work
