About the Camelid Medicine Club
Established several decades ago as the Llama/Alpaca Medicine Association, the club changed its name to the Camelid Medicine Club in late 2008. At this time the club hosted a wide range of educational events, including a Camelid Symposium, and was one of only a few clubs on campus dedicated to student education on non-traditional species. After a period of closure during the height of the pandemic, the club was formally re-established as the Camelid Medicine Club at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine by Tirragen Vixie (CO 2025), Jessica Carson (CO 2026), Aryana D. Jamal (CO 2026), & Sebastian Lidikay (CO 2027) in 2024. Throughout the club's history Dr. Julie Dechant, the club's faculty advisor, has offered valuable and consistent leadership, especially important as the club continues to regrow. To this day the Camelid Medicine Club remains one of the oldest of a small handful of clubs worldwide dedicated to veterinary education in camelid species.
