We believe there is a healthcare system that accommodates the needs of all.

About Us

CaHPSA is the official autonomous student program of California Physicians Alliance (CaPA).

Our organization consists of over 3,000 undergraduates, medical students, and health professional students located statewide who are interested in developing health advocacy skills that can be utilized to effect change in the health care system. Members are able to apply their experiences to better communicating the need for an improved Medicare-for-all health care system in which all people can have access to necessary health and medical services.

What We Do

CaHPSA organizes conferences, workshops, and presentations aimed at helping students develop effective health advocacy skills, promote a sense of social responsibility, and encourage collaboration.

We also support efforts by our allies and partners to improve the current health care system by participating in legislative visits, community education, and outreach events.

In addition, CaHPSA is also committed to helping people get health coverage now. Through our Project White Coat program, we help families enroll in Medi-Cal or another form of health insurance.

Our History

California Physicians Alliance (CaPA) was founded in 1987 in the San Francisco East Bay area. The founders were doctors who believed we could improve health care for patients by improving our health care financing and delivery system.

We are made up of 7,000 physicians, medical providers, health professional students, and advocates throughout California.

In August, 2010, CaHPSA became the official autonomous student program of Physicians for a National Health Program California, now California Physicians Alliance (CaPA).

Our Mission Statement

“We aim to cultivate leadership and advocacy skills among health professional students so they can effect change in the healthcare system in support of comprehensive, high-quality, accessible, guaranteed, and affordable health care for all Californians.”
