About Us
American Cancer Society at UC Davis, formerly known as Colleges Against Cancer, is designed to help eliminate cancer by initiating and supporting the programs of the American Cancer Society on the college campus. Our organization is designed to allow students and staff to work through many different channels to eliminate cancer. These channels are our strategic directions- Advocacy, Cancer Education, Relay for Life, and Survivorship. Relay for Life is our annual 24-hour long event held out on Russel Field in May in which 300-400 students and community members join us to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who we have lost, and emphasize all of the progress that we have made in terms of cancer research and advocacy. Contrary to common belief, Relay for Life is not an event that requires running, but rather is a day filled with fun games and activities, food, amazing speakers, fundraising, and incredible performances. In the past 4 years, our club has raised over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society, and we strive to keep serving the community and supporting cancer patients for years to come. In addition to planning for Relay for Life, we host monthly general meetings in which we promote cancer awareness, have guest speakers, and hold various fundraisers. In addition, members who want to get more involved in our club, while not necessarily taking on a bigger role in our Leadership Team can join our Committees, where they meet bi-weekly and help plan for Relay for Life. We also host monthly "Giftsgiving" events, in which our volunteers give gifts to survivors and patients at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a member of the Sacramento Lung Health Coalition, we also assist the coalition with planning for their annual "Love Your Lungs" Event that is held in November. If you are looking to make a difference in the fight against cancer, gain leadership skills, and make lasting friendships at the same time, ACS at UC Davis is the right club for you.
