About Us
An outlet for grad students who love to dance--for mental health, exercise, and fun. We hold weekly, open practices with technique, choreography, and free dance (jazz/contemporary focus). Members take turns leading practices; all level dancers welcome. This organization will provide an outlet for graduate students at UC Davis who want to dance for exercise, stress relief, and/or fun. The club will be open to any graduate student and to dancers of all levels (beginner through advanced). The main styles of dance will be jazz and contemporary, but other styles may be incorporated based on members' interests. While several other dance organizations exist on campus, most groups offering jazz/contemporary require auditions and regular time commitments that are not feasible for many graduate students. In contrast, Grad Student Dancers will have no auditions, and members will be encouraged to attend weekly practices as regularly or infrequently as they are able to. The group will be highly collaborative, and members will take turns volunteering to lead practices, choose music, and choreograph and teach dances to the group. The goal of the organization is to enhance the mental and physical health of graduate students by providing the opportunity to dance with a supportive community of fellow graduate students. Importantly, the club will be cost-free and will adhere to the UC Davis Principles of Community to create a positive and relaxed environment for all dancers.
