About Us
Youth in Dentistry at UC Davis is a chapter of the Youth in Dentistry Student Organization. The main purpose of our chapter is to help educate students, regardless of whether they are in high school or college, about the field of dentistry. Along with this, we want to establish this chapter to create a strong sense of community within all the Pre-Dental students at UC Davis itself. We have noticed that there are large communities for Pre-Med, Pre-PA, and Pre-Vet programs but not so much for Pre-Dental students. Many Pre-Dental students we have spoken to are still looking for a tight-knit community and we hope to be that for them. We have already created an Executive Board team, and have done several Instagram takeovers of dental students, high school students, and even some UCD alumni who are now studying in Dental School. Our Research Committee is in charge of researching specific topics every month that are related to any field within Dentistry (dental hygiene, dental assisting, and dental specializations). After compiling all of the information they have researched, our social media team works on transforming this research into interactive and visually appealing slides that we can feature on our social media. Since the DAT (Dental Admissions Test) is a very important component of Dental School applications, our social media team also compiles various DAT questions and posts them on our Instagram stories to let all ur followers attempt the questions. The purpose of this is to give a feel of the DAT to pre-dental students in a very non-intimidating manner. Our Public Outreach Team actively reaches out to various dental school students, dental professionals, etc. to do Instagram Takeovers and interactive Lives where any of our followers can join and communicate directly with the guest speaker. In the future, we plan to host virtual shadowing, collaborate with other educational clubs, and host fun workshops gearing towards the Dental career. We hope to start our own blog with posts that focus on the professional and more intimate aspects of Dentistry. We believe that social media is becoming the new platform where learning can be very quick and interactive and where everyone within the Dental community can connect virtually. The Pre-Dental community is very small at Davis and oftentimes, many other pre-health students switch to pre-dental midway, feeling lost and intimidated about dental school applications. Our organization aims to offer a helping hand by introducing them to other pre-dental students, helping them find study buddies in their pre-requisite classes, as well as exploring the vast field of Dentistry.
