Welcome to the PHS Club Newsletter

Hello Club Members and Public Health Enthusiasts! Welcome to Spring Quarter! We are excited to be back this quarter and hope everyone enjoys their classes and the Spring weather.

CLUB NEWS

We have many things that will be coming up in the future that we are very excited for!

  1. Are you planning on graduating this school year and are continuing your education through graduate schools/PhD programs? We would love to hear from you in our survey so that we can congratulate you and showcase you at our meeting! Graduating Survey

  2. UCDavis will be hosting a National Public Health Week Symposium April 7, 12-1:30 PM with speakers Dr. Rita Nguyen and Dr. Brad Pollock. This event will be taking place in-person at the UCDavis Genome Center Auditorium or on ZOOM. There will also be an activity for Public Health Week we hope you can all be a part of that involves creating an outline of your hand with your name, year and major, and writing a one worded response to “What does ‘Public Health’ mean to you?”. We hope you can attend and be a part of learning more about Public Health.

  1. A reminder that the election for club officials is still ongoing and we are accepting candidates for all positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Financial Officer. The transition will be a quarter-long turnover to show the new leadership team the ins and outs of the club. At week 5, the new leadership team will begin to take over and then roll into their leadership year after SQ22. If interested, please feel free to email the club email or email if you have any questions about any of the positions!

  2. We will be sending out a survey to get your input on spring club dates/times! We would appreciate responses for when the meetings work best for you for us to set for this quarter.

5. Make sure to check out our AggieLife and sign yourself up as a member if you haven’t already done so at AggieLife and check out our home website https://aggielife.ucdavis.edu/publichealthsciencesclub/home/

Graduate School Resources

 UCDavis Summer GRE Prep

Pre-Grad/Law Advising will be offering one in-person prep program in Summer 2022 due to the GRE becoming less required in graduate admissions.

Eligibility: Our prep programs are offered to current UC Davis students as well as alumni. For both programs, we prioritize students who will be applying to grad school in the coming cycle. As the GRE isn't always required, please check with the programs you're interested in before applying!

Description: Our programs are not-for-credit and free of cost, except for purchasing the textbook. Participants who successfully complete the program by attending all the classes and reporting their scores on the diagnostic and practice exams will receive a partial fee waiver for the GRE.

Summer 2022 dates: June 17-July 29

Practice exams will be held on June 17 and July 29. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, exact times TBD.

Please let us know if you are interested in signing up for 2022 program here
