Mission
Davis Furs will foster social connection between UC Davis students interested in the furry fandom. The furry fandom is a subculture based around anthropomorphic animals (e.g. cartoon characters or characters found in other media). Its origins date back to at least the 1980s in science fiction and comic conventions, and it also has strong ties to the LGBTQ+ community. We will serve as a safe space for members of this often-stigmatized and marginalized community to connect socially, express themselves, and find others with similar interests, as well as introducing UCD students to the furry fandom who may not have heard of it before. We will host regular meetings and social gatherings with furry themes and provide spaces for members to meet up, discuss furry topics, and sometimes wear costumes (“fursuits”). We will also provide creative resources for those interested in creating their own furry characters (“fursonas”), fursuits, artwork, or other “furry” media.
