About Us
Dabket Watan Dance Group at UC Davis is a cultural organization on campus that strives to teach its members about the Middle Eastern culture, music, and traditional values through the dabkeh dance. In Arabic, “dabkeh” means “stomping of the feet,” but in parts of the Middle East, it is also a traditional style of dance commonly performed at Arabic celebrations such as weddings. Dabket Watan at UCD is open to all students regardless of race, age, sex, religion, or campus origin. Founded in 2019 by a Jordanian second year student at UC Davis, Lana Alamamreh, with the help of her fourth year Yemeni friend Gamar Alizani. Dabket Watan at UCD has since collaborated with many other student groups on campus and has been invited to participate in many events held both on and off campus.
