These ten organizations in DISC are -The American Medical Women's Association Pre-Med Division (AMWA), Black Engineers Association (BEA), Chicano and Latino Engineers & Scientists Society (CALESS), Club of Future Female Electrical Engineers (COFFEE), Equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Entrepreneurship (ESTEME), Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS),National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE), Out in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics (oSTEM), Pilipinx Americans in Science & Engineering (PASE), and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).The mission of DISC is to support the retention and success of marginalized students in STEM at UC Davis and foster community between diversity-focused organizations in STEM by collaboratively hosting professional development events. This year we aim to:

Provide and showcase resources that support academic and professional advancement to marginalized students in STEM at UC Davis

Cultivate relationships with UC Davis entities to serve a broad range of students in STEM

Our mission statement for starting UC Davis's first majorette dance team is based on the lack of inclusion in many clubs and sports teams on campus. On top of that, dance is an important part of all of our lives and the culture of majorette dance is more than just dance, it's tradition and familial. With this team we are not only hoping to spread creativity and love we have for this art, but we are hoping to build a community with other people who share our passion. We created this team because we wanted to have a sense of community for dancers that practice different styles but to also acknowledge the importance and value of Black cultural dances such as majorette, hip-hop, jazz and more.

Spanish in Healthcare is a student organization dedicated to practicing medical Spanish and giving back to the Latino community. We hold monthly meetings where we practice medical Spanish terminology and discuss pertinent health issues in the Latinx and Black communities. With the growing number of native Spanish speakers in the US, the rapidly increasing language barriers within healthcare, and the national shortage of BIPOC physicians; SHC strives to overcome this language barrier and diversify the field of healthcare by teaching aspiring healthcare professionals medical Spanish terminology and thus improving health outcomes for Spanish-speaking and BIPOC patients & communities.

1. Foster dialogue on racism as a public health concern.
Encourage physicians, physician organizations, and medical institutions to publicly recognize racism as a public health issue.
Promote medical students involvement in local and national movements to end racism and police brutality.
Advocate for the funding and promotion of research on the health effects of racism.

2. End racial discrimination in medical care.
Demand that academic medical centers serve the healthcare needs of their local communities, particularly the needs of patients of color.
Promote the allocation of funding for interventions that dismantle racism in the delivery of medical care.
Ensure equal access to medical care by advocating for the establishment of a single-payer national health insurance program.

3. Prepare future physicians to be advocates for racial justice.
Improve the recruitment and support of Black, Latinx, and Native American medical students.
Promote the recruitment, retention, and hiring of Black, Latinx, and Native American physicians in medical school teaching, research, and leadership positions.
Develop national medical school curricular standards that educate current and future medical professionals on the history and current manifestations of racism in medicine, principles of anti-racism, and strategies for dismantling structural racism.
