MCB CLUB NEWSLETTER #1
Spring 2023
Hi everyone!
Thank you all for attending our 1st General Meeting! As a recap, our club officers introduced themselves before Lauren Ward, a peer advisor from the Undergraduate Research Center gave a presentation on getting involved with on-campus research. Check out the slides if you missed it!
At the end, our officers also discussed their own research journeys (how they got started, interview tips, what research looks like). They would be more than happy to talk about that. Send them an email or Discord message!
Main Takeaways
- Learn about faculty and what their research is focused on
- Find out what you are interested in (it doesn’t have to be related to your major!)
- Practice email etiquette, be professional
- Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get in a lab on your first try
Feel free to email Lauren or visit the URC if you have more questions!
NEXT MEETING IS THIS MONDAY (4/17)
Bring your laptops! You can try it out as we go!
R is a programming language for statistical computing and graphics, and it is a very useful tool in data and statistical analyses. Join us to learn more about R and the amazing things you can use it for!
Bonus: Learning R is a very useful skill to add to your resume! At our next meeting, the ICC can teach you how to use it to your advantage.
AGGIE DAY
Last Saturday was also Aggie Day! Dave, Samantha, and Erin tabled for the MCB Club and met with admitted first-years who came to learn more about campus before committing to UC Davis.
